Does anyone even read blogs anymore?

Well, you’re here so I guess the answer is yes! So it’s time for the traditional meet the maker first blog post. If you’ve followed me for a while, you’re probably familiar with me, but you still might enjoy a refresher about who I am, where I’m from, and what I’m all about!

 

A little about me…

Thanks for sticking with me! So I’m Lalíe, and I’ve been a knitter since 2009. I took a class through continuing education at a local university, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I was still in college when I learned, and I remember ignoring my homework and other responsibilities for as long as I possibly could because all I wanted to do was learn how to knit. I made a hideous purple scarf out of some craft store acrylic yarn. Sadly I have long since donated it, but now I wish I had kept it around as a memento of how far I’ve come since that first project. At least my husband kept the first hat I made him, which is just as terrible, so that’s still a pretty good reminder!

I also just recently learned how to crochet, thanks to The Woobles. I haven't ventured out with other patterns yet, but I hope to soon once I get more confident with reading crochet patterns.

 

A little more about me…

I’m from a little north of Houston. I moved to New Mexico in 2005 for college, met my now-husband, and stayed there way longer than I mean to. But, in 2024, we finally made the jump and relocated to North Dallas, TX area and have been loving it! Well, except for the tornado scares. I forgot how scary those cane be! 

During the day, I'm a stay at home mom to my two tiny humans; a daughter & a son whom Heart & Squirrel is named after. They both enjoy "helping" with the business. I do look forward to the day they are old enough that the quotes around helping can go away!

Besides knitting/crocheting, I love baking, cooking, reading, & I’m an avid binge watcher of TV/movies. I’ve been a movie buff since high school, & am quite the geek. I love going to comic cons, and I have a goal to meet an actor from all of my fandoms (looking at you BBC Sherlock!! *shakes fist at Mark Gatiss for not casting Mark Sheppard*) I have too many fandoms (and tattoos) to count, & you’ll often see many of my products are (obscure) fandom based.

 

And to wrap up, a few random facts about me…

1. Nearly everything I knit or crochet is either whimsical/silly, or has some sort of geek association. I was once asked if I ever “knit anything normal” & I’m still proud to say the answer is no.

2. I have a B.A. in music (piano) and a M.A. in English Literature. I did my Master’s Thesis on gender in the A Song if Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin.

3. I have a few mini “claims to fame.” I used to do background/extra work on TV & films and can even be spotted in a few that I did, although they are all smaller works. But while I dislike the spotlight, I absolutely love being on a film set and getting to experience the “movie magic.”

4. I am very introverted and am quite the home-body. While I like the idea of traveling, I’d really just rather be at home than anywhere else.
